Utility Electrical Consultants is a consulting engineering firm providing design services to owners of medium and high voltage electric systems. Clients are principally electric utilities such as municipalities and electric distribution cooperatives. UEC is located in the Raleigh area and serves clients principally in the Carolinas and Virginia.
We are seeking an experienced Protection and Controls Engineer to join our team. The engineer should have extensive knowledge of typical substation and transmission line protection relay schemes. The individual should also be familiar with protection schemes for interface with distributed generation systems. The candidate should be capable of completing substation P&C design projects with minimal supervision. Part-time will be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Create design documents and drawings for P&C projects including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC and DC schematic diagrams, field wiring diagrams, cable schedules, panel layouts, and bills of material.

Specification of relays, panels, and associated components

Develop relay settings.

Apply and design protection schemes for typical substation designs

Familiarity with and ability to program various types of microprocessor relays such as SEL, Basler, Beckwith, ABB, and GE.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

BS in electrical engineering

Minimum of 5 years of experience with P&C design for high-voltage substations.

Knowledge of utility industry standard practices

Knowledge of substation design practices

Ability to conduct field review of existing systems

Ability to participate in on-site implementation of relaying systems

The ability to interface effectively with clients, employees, and management team
